Meet Dr. Anne Moore

Dr. Anne Moore has been actively working in the field of mental health since 1996. She attended graduate school for her doctoral coursework at the Georgia School of Professional Psychology- Argosy University.  She completed pre-doctoral and post doctoral training at the Atlanta Center for Eating Disorders as well as a year long trauma practicum at Georgia State University.  Dr. Moore then completed her pre-doctoral residency at Appalachian State University Counseling and Psychological Services Center in Boone, North Carolina. Her dissertation topic in 1999 was the application of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) as an effective method for treating eating disorders. Dr. Moore examined the research available at the time on the effectiveness of DBT as a treatment model for Borderline Personalty Disorder and parasuicidal behavior and then extracted tenets of the model that could be central to successful treatment of ED’S and provided a hypothesis that this treatment could be very effective for individuals with ED’s. DBT is currently considered the gold standard treatment model for eating disorder treatment.

Upon completion of her doctoral program, Dr. Moore served as the Program Director for Atlanta Center for Eating Disorders from 2000-2004.  As program director she managed the daily operation and program development for a large intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization treatment center.  Additionally, she facilitated group, individual, and family therapy.  Dr. Moore also participated as an Active Teacher in Family Medicine for Emory University supervising medical residents. Dr. Moore actively supervised doctoral level students in clinical and diagnostic training as well as a large clinical team comprised of psychologists and masters level therapists.  Dr. Moore started her private practice while serving as program director at the Atlanta Center for Eating Disorders.  In her private practice she developed and utilized the Triangle Theory model, a  treatment model for treating individuals who struggle from all types of self injury.  Dr. Moore broadened her scope in 2013 and is the author of “ Living Joyfully in Our Bodies” she also went on to manage several residential eating disorder treatment centers in the Southeast and mid- Atlantic area of the country.  Dr. Moore has experience directing treatment at all levels of care. Dr. Moore also designed specific groups for in person care in 2020 and continues to direct and run those groups in Atlanta. Currently, Dr. Moore is in private practice on St. Simons Island, GA and in Atlanta, GA.  She is developing a new treatment model for treating eating disorders which combines the tenants of Family Based Treatment, her own  treatment model, the Triangle Theory, exploration of how shame, self compassion, and mindfulness impact individuals and families, DBT skills, and family systems theory.  This is an exciting model that focuses on keeping an individual at home during treatment and offers healing for the family as a whole.  It is proving to be an effective treatment model.

In her private practice,  Dr. Moore continues to enjoy working with a broad variety of individuals and the issues they face as they strive for health and fulfillment in their lives.  In addition to her work with patients with eating disorders, she  has worked extensively with individuals struggling with chronic pain and illness, self injury, anxiety, OCD, depression and trauma. She practices from both a theoretical perspective as well as a practical perspective.  “ All the theory in the world does not help unless we as professionals can also be people first and connect with our patients as real human beings and honor the lives that each of the people we work with lead.”

Currently, Anne is a full time resident of St Simons Island.  She lives with her two dogs Rufus and Gracie and her daughter Tyler is in college at Emory University in Atlanta.  In her free time, Anne enjoys walking on the beach, painting, cooking and entertaining friends in her home. She loves living on the island and is enjoying finding ways to participate in and serve her community.
